What is a Vinyl Window

Vinyl windows are made from a material called PVC. PVC stands for polyvinyl chloride, which is a plastic polymer that has additives that allow the manufacturer to form it into many different shapes and colors. ​ A vinyl window is a budget friendly option that comes in many different styles and colors to fit any look. Vinyl windows are made from are more common as replacement windows, due to their cheaper cost than wood windows, but they don't work in every situation. Depending on the style window that you have, the existing trim and window frame may be able to stay, and the new window is installed into the existing frame and then sealed on the exterior. The other option would be to remove the existing frame and trim all the way down to the studs and install new trim with the window. This would be determined by the existing window style and your budget. This is unfortunately why it is necessary to have an in home consultation before receiving a quote for a window.

When is it time to get new windows?

Below is a list of a few things to look for

Windows won't open and close properly

If your windows don't open or close properly, its time to get the windows inspected. There are dozens of issues that can arise to cause a window not to function properly. Not all issues will require replacement though. As long as you know the manufacturer, you can order most parts such as locks, handles, or the window balance that helps to hold the window when you lift it up. But not all parts are replaceable, and sometimes spare parts for older windows are hard to find.

Moisture INSIDE of the glass

Moisture OUTSIDE of the glass

If you start to notice moisture building up on the inside of the glass, there is a simple explanation. In most cases, the moisture build-up is due to a large amount of warm air, normally a close by vent, that hits the cool glass of the window. The warm air hitting the cool glass is what makes the moisture build up. There's not much that you can do to stop this unfortunately. One way to minimize it is to make sure the vent is not blowing directly on the window.

Drafts can be felt

If you're feeling drafts from your windows it can come through a gap in the window, or it can come through the frame that surrounds the window. Either way, an inspection should be done to see if the issue can be repaired. A draft through the window could indicate deteriorating weatherstrip or damage to the frame, while a draft from around the window could mean that there is a gap in the exterior,
